Adoption FAQs

What are AAP's Adoption rules?

  • All dogs in the home must be spayed or neutered.
  • All dogs in the home must be current on all age appropriate vaccinations.
  • All dogs in the home must be on regular, year-round heartworm preventative.
  • We will contact your vet to confirm the above.
  • If you rent, we will contact your landlord to verify your ability to have a dog, and any restrictions on breed or size.
  • We require that you fill out an application and be completely honest on the application.
  • We do not require a fence, but ask about it in our application.
  • We require a home visit for all of our dogs.
  • We adopt within a 2 hour radius of Dayton, Ohio.
  • AAP Adoption Representatives make the final decision on placement of our dogs after the home visit.

What are AAP's Adoption Fees?

  • Adoption fees for puppies are $250.

  • Adoption fees for adult dogs are $200

  • Adoption fees may differ for special breeds or cases

Why do puppies cost more than adults?

  • We rely on adoption fees and donations to support our rescue. Puppies typically require more vetting due to additional vaccines being required. This increases our cost to care for them, so their adoption fees are higher.

Are all AAP adoptable dogs vaccinated?

  • All dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, & heartworm tested prior to being adopted, as well as on heartworm preventative in their foster home.
